How to create QR codes for pub/restaurant menus in Ireland

Cleanliness and hygiene are more important than ever for any pub or restaurant, especially post-COVID-19. Customers may appreciate the little things such as having the option of viewing a menu easily on their phone as opposed to holding a menu that has been passed around the restaurant all day. This can be done by putting QR codes on each table.

Most customers do have a smartphone, so doing something like this is feasible. For a non-techy person, this may seem like it could be tricky but in reality, it is extremely easy to do.

What you will be glad to hear is that there are free tools you can use – the one we will be using in this blog post is www.qrcode-monkey.com.

The benefits of using QR code monkey:

Follow These Steps

Step 1 – Copy and paste the URL link to your Menu

On the qrcodemonkey homepage select the URL section and the copy the URL which will the customer to your menu. Don’t worry if you do not have a website for your business you could also link to a social media post that has a photo of your menu.

Alternatively in the ‘more’ section you can instead chose an option which allows the customer to download a PDF of your menu if your bar/restaurant does not have any online presence.

Step 2 – Customise your QR Code

In the next two drop-down menus, you can customise your QR code as you like. You can choose to add in your logo, change the shape, colour scheme, and even add popular social media icons to make the QR code stand out.

Step 3 – Create QR Code and Download PNG file

Once you are happy with the design of your QR code, the final thing to do is decide on how big you want it to be – the default size will be 1000 X 1000 pixels.

You can then finalise the QR code by clicking ‘Create QR Code’.

When the QR code is created, you will be free to download a free PNG version of the file. You can then print out the QR code and stick it on the tables, bars or wherever is needed.

Other Uses of QR codes in a pub/restaurant

Here are some other uses for QR Codes in your pub/restaurant:

Helping customers access your Wi-Fi

It can be a nuisance for your staff when they are constantly being asked by customers for your Wi-Fi password and when the password is confusing or difficult to input which can frustrate customers. Why not create a QR code that the customer can scan and automatically connect to the Wi-Fi with.

This can also be done on qrcodemonkey when you go to the section highlighted in the below screenshot.

Collect Customer Emails

One of the best ways to keep in touch with your customers is when you have their email addresses. When you have a list of emails you have control of how you communicate with your customers unlike a social media platform which could disappear over time.

It is very easy to create landing pages that capture customer emails using platforms such as Mailchimp. You could ask a customer for their email address before they download your menu and they be able to retarget them afterwards with all your latest deals and events.

Grow your social media

People like to share what they are up to with their community on social media and would most likely tag and follow your social media pages if they are having a good time at your venue.

QR codes again could be used as an option to allow customers to quickly follow your page.

Share the location of your business

To advertise your restaurant or pub you may have leaflets and advertisements placed all around the locality. If theses strategically places advertisements catch the eye of a potential customer they will want to be able to quickly find the location of your pub/restaurant.

QRcodemonkey has another feature that will allow you to create a QR code that can give the customer a Google Maps location when they scan the code, making it more likely they will pay you a visit.
